Child safety standards

Zero tolerance for CSAE
BandUp is an IELTS / TOEFL / PTE speaking-partner app. We have a zero-tolerance policy for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE). That includes sexual content or conduct involving anyone 17 or under, grooming, sexual solicitation of a minor, and child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in any form — photos, videos, generated imagery, or text.
Anyone who posts, solicits, or shares CSAE is banned. We remove the content and report it to the relevant authority where required.
Age
BandUp is for ages 13 and over. It is not a Kids app and is not directed at children. You cannot complete onboarding under 13. If we learn an account is under 13, we delete it.
How to report in the app
You can report child-safety concerns without leaving BandUp:
- Open a chat or a partner profile and tap Report.
- Choose a reason (including inappropriate messages or harassment) and send.
- You may also block the person in the same sheet. Reports are anonymous to the other user.
We aim to review reports within 24 hours. You can also email the child-safety contact below.
How we address CSAM
When BandUp obtains actual knowledge of CSAM or other CSAE, we:
- Remove the content from the product so other users cannot see it.
- Ban the account and block the same Apple or Google identity from signing up again.
- Preserve records needed for a report or a lawful request.
- Report confirmed CSAM to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children (NCMEC) and/or the relevant regional or national authority.
Avatars and chat photos are reviewed. Staff may review direct messages and chat media when investigating a child-safety report. Text that solicits sexual contact or shares off-platform handles is filtered. Voice calls are never recorded.
Legal compliance
BandUp complies with applicable child-safety laws, including having a process to report confirmed CSAM to NCMEC or the relevant regional authority. We cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement.
